Who are we?
We consist of a team of Doctors, Health Advisors, nurses and receptionists and are specially trained to give you advice and treatment relating to your sexual health.
Why would you need to see us?
People see us about issues relating to their sexual health for example persistent vaginal discharge, sexually transmitted infections and genital warts. We provide a non-judgmental and confidential service.
What do we do?
We offer screening, treatment and advice for infections that are caught through having sex and also for any other concerns you may have regarding your sexual health. We also offer a blood test for HIV Hepatitis B and syphilis. These are all taken from one sample. ccasionally infections can give you symptoms e.g. discharge or discomfort in your genital area, but often will give no symptoms at all and could lead to complications. That’s why if you are worried or unsure, please come and be checked out!
Can these infections be treated?
Yes, the majority of infections are treated by taking some tablets. Treatment is given out
by us and is free.
What actually happens at the clinic?
The doctor or nurse will first need to ask you some questions and will then examine you and take some swabs. The nurse will also take a blood sample. Please be honest, remember we are here to help and are not going to be shocked by anything you tell us.
Will I get treatment the same day?
Usually the doctor or nurse will treat you the same day, in other cases you will be asked to phone in a week to get your test results, and to return if you need treatment.
What about my partner?
If you have sexual infection it is important that you partner is tested and treated too. Infections can lay undetected in our bodies for a long time, so if you have had other sexual contacts recently we may ask you about them, so that they also can be offered treatment. This can be done confidentially and anonymously.
Does my GP need to know?
No you don’t need to be referred to us you can just ring yourself and make an appointment. None of the tests you have taken are sent to your GP and no information is given to anyone unless you give consent. We would like to stress the service we give is confidential, which means we don’t tell anyone you have been.
